FILM CREDITS
From 1917 to 1934, Alice Calhoun starred or was featured in 52  (1 still unknown) films and had a cameo in a documentary.  All of these were silent, except for her last two films, The Alibi and  Now I'll Tell.
Silent movies are a collective memory of the 1st century of recorded moving images.  Unfortunately, hardly any of them still exist.  At the time that they were created, very few people realized the historical significance that they would someday hold.  The motion picture business was, and still is, a money-making industry.  Movies were thought of  as "product" by those in the business.   When they were no longer being shown (because new films were being churned out at a dizzying pace), they were generally disposed of.  Nitrate degradation was the final culprit as reels self-destructed into a fine dust in their tins on storage shelves.  The Library of Congress has estimated that fewer than 20% of early American films have survived the passage of time.  The American Film Institute has done a remarkable job of compiling and recording what information is available about the actors, directors, producers and plots of many hundreds of films.  The All-Movie Guide on the internet is another resource for movie reviews that is indispensable to any researcher of early American film.  The UCLA Film Library is working to preserve what reels have been located and are relatively unscathed, as has the Library of Congress.

To the best of our knowledge, the following are the only films of Alice's career to have been preserved:
The Part-Time Wife; Kentucky Handicap; and Now I'll Tell (all preserved at the UCLA library archives and/or at The Library of Congress); and The Flag: A Story Inspired by Betsy Ross (owned by TCM).  Available for public resale are: The Alibi, In the Tentacles of the North; Hidden Aces; The Man on the Box; and Pampered Youth.  Portions of Matrimonial Web and The Other Woman's Story also exist.
