Hollywood Walk of Fame

There are places for approximately 2,500 "Stars" on the Walk of Fame.  Stars must be nominated for this prestigious honor by someone other than themselves.  The cost to sponsor a star is $15,000.  The star must show up in person for the ceremony, although one individual per year receives a star posthumously.
The first ceremony took place on February 9, 1960 when Joanne Woodward received her star.  Over the following six months, 1,558 stars were installed, including Alice Calhoun's for her contribution to the Motion Picture industry.  Her star is located at 6815 Hollywood Boulevard.
Alice's husband, Max Clarence Chotiner, sponsored the Alice Calhoun Chotiner Wing, which is a waiting room for families at the City of Hope Hospital in Los Angeles, California.  It is still there today.
It was their fervent hope that a cure for cancer could be discovered soon, but sadly, Alice died of the disease on the morning of June 3, 1966, aged 65.
Max had Alice laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California in the Garden of Ascension near the little Garden of Faithfulness.  He was buried beside her after his passing, less than two years later.
