| Both Alice Calhoun and her older brother, Joseph were highly successful in their professional lives, and made remarkable contributions to their generation. Joseph was born in 1895 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was an attorney and justice of the peace. In 1933 he was appointed as a royal consul to Norway. In 1953 he was awarded a royal Danish consul by King Frederick IX. In 1963, he was named a Knight of the Order of Dannebroug by that country. In 1971, he was promoted to the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav by King Olav V and awarded a medal for his service to that country.. His first wife was Elizabeth Dous. After she passed away, he remarried a secretary named Melissa Elizabeth Dean in 1959. They had two children, William D. and Betty Jo Calhoun. In the obituary listed at the bottom of this page, Joseph's sister, Alice is said to survive him, but this is incorrect. Alice passed away in 1966. |
